Day Five: Chinle,AZ

So today Walt and I went on a tour of Canyon de Chelly. I tried to post a video talking about the trip but the internet at the hotel isn`t that great. I learned a few words while on the ride and saw some amazing sights. There is so much to learn by digging into the past and I`m lucky that I could hear some of the stories that the Navajo Indians have.

Here are some pictures from today`s ride.

Above are some pictographs that the "Old Ones", Hopi, Navajo, Toas people would make to mark their presence.
Below is one of the many settlements built out of the surrounding sandstone to house 100-600 people at a time. The average lifespan of the "Old Ones" was roughly 35-40 years. They were short and really good climbers.

I also took a few videos using the GoPro but blogger doesn't want me to upload those. Basically as we were driving the canyon floor I stuck the stick with the GoPro out the window and recorded the view around me.

Day Four: Chinle, AZ

We left Williams,AZ at 8am and made several stops on our way to Chinle,AZ

Our first stop was just an hour away and it was Meteor Crater. This was a fun stop and very informative. Did you know that we have 3 back-up plans in case a meteor hits Earth today? I didn`t.

Our next stop was actually to drive through the Petrified Forrest/Painted Desert. We stopped along the way and the best part was FREE, Walt and I bought a national park pass at the Grand Canyon so we could get in for free everywhere else.

Here is some of the wood that we got to look at. A majority of it is reddish due to the land containing a lot of Iron in it.
This is a bridge of petrified wood. Back in 1901 there wasn`t anything underneath to support it so in 1963 they built cement pillars underneath to help preserve it.
Here is one of many views we were able to see of the Painted Desert

We are now in Chinle, AZ and will be taking a Jeep Tour tomorrow out on the reservation. Just trying to stay cool in this dry heat.

Day Three: Williams,AZ AKA Grand Canyon

So today we drove off around 8 am to go to The Grand Canyon. Initially I was going to take a Mule ride on a 4 hour trip but we didn't make reservations ahead of time. :( Its okay though Walt and I drove the Desert Valley route along the rim trail and it was gorgeous......

Talked to a French stranger (Yes French part matters) and asked him to take our photo. When he handed my phone back I said thank-you very much in French. Felt like a total BA for making his eyes big. :)

Aren`t these just amazing? The view was tremendous.

After spending the morning at The Grand Canyon we drove back the way we came and stopped in Bedrock City to visit some old friends. Do you recognize them?

We had a lovely Linner (Lunch/Dinner) with the Flintstones and then got to explore their area. Now we are back in Williams for the night and leave tomorrow for Chinle,AZ.

We left Mojave,Ca at 8am and arrived in Williams,AZ roughly 330pm

Those of you that followed Walt and I last year will remember we went to the deer farm and on that day a baby was born. Well when we went back today we got to see that one as well as a new baby that was born two weeks ago.

Tomorrow is the Grand Canyon so there will be tons more pictures but for today here are some Deers for ya`ll

Day One: Mojave, Ca

We departed at 6:15 am and arrived in Mojave,Ca at 2:10 pm with a few stops along the way. We made great timing and now we are resting before we go out for some dinner.
Walt drove through the Tehachapis so I could take pictures of the climb.

Found a Dust Devil and people stopped instead of drove through it.
